John Battelle’s Searchblog: EBay to MSFT, Yahoo: Let’s Circle the Wagons Against dem Google Injuns

Wow this is more like a WWE steal cage match gone awry!  Three on one is not fair, right?

This comes from John Battelle’s Searchblog.  EBay and company (Microsoft & Yahoo) are starting to get sick of getting stomped on by Google. So they are meeting to determine the best approach to destroy the peoples champ, Google.

I suggest EBay distract Google by taking them head on and then either Yahoo or Microsoft come from behind and hit Google with a folding chair .

What a circus!

So why do we do what we do? April 20, 2006

Mankind, in its self-congratulatory revelry, will finally come to
realize that all forms of kudos simply blind us from the solitary
incontrovertible truth: life is a hollow shell of nil.

Make your own judgements but I think the redesign is pretty……… awful. Go ahead, look at it. NYTIMES.

The question I ask is “What the hell am I supposed to be looking at?”

Where is my eye supposed to look? How can I scan to headlines when they are buried into the text of articles?

Sure it’s better than what they had before (Is it?) but the net seems to be heaping on the praise as if it’s a work of art. My god the story headlines are buried in the text of the articles, the left hand nav bar is barley discernable as anythng other than text. Is there any navigation that one can see with a glance? Holy crap the home page is a beast for gods sake!  Oh but the ads are very findable, of course! Gotta pay the bills I understand that, but at some point the brand gets crushed by the ads.

All in all how long did they spend on this?

PS I do like the idea of tabbed navigation at the top but I am not sure the average user will see it.
